About the Event
From a news article:
Every Friday, a group of Portland people gather on the Sellwood bridge in southwest Portland. The enthusiastic protestors meet during Friday rush hour and fill the pedestrian sidewalks on the bridge with signs, protest placards, bullhorns, megaphones and people.
Demonstrators show off homemade signs to cars on the bridge during the evening commute hour between 5:30 and 7 p.m., but the official start time is always 6 pm.
The protest began as a small group of neighbors in Sellwood-Moreland, but now has begun to pull in people from as far away as Raleigh Hills, Lake Oswego, downtown Portland and Beaverton. Even on rainy Fridays, the group has averaged 50 people. New participants join every week.
To participate in the protests, the organizers tell people to come to the Sellwood bridge, arriving between 5:30 and 6 p.m. every Friday evening. The protest activities last for about an hour.
